10 Biggest Myths about Colon Hydrotherapy

Updated: Apr 30

Colon hydrotherapy, also known as colonic irrigation or colonic therapy, is a popular form of alternative therapy that involves the use of water to cleanse the colon. While there are many benefits to this type of therapy, there are also many myths and misconceptions that surround it. In this blog post, we will be debunking 10 of the biggest myths about colon hydrotherapy.

Myth 1: Colon Hydrotherapy is Painful!

Many people believe that colon hydrotherapy is a painful procedure, but this is not the case. In fact, most people report feeling relaxed and comfortable during the treatment. The process involves the gentle infusion of triple filtration, gravity-fed warm water into the colon, which helps to flush out toxins and waste. While some people may experience mild discomfort or cramping, this is usually short-lived and can be managed with deep breathing exercises.

Myth 2: Colon Hydrotherapy is Only for People with Digestive Issues?

While colon hydrotherapy can be beneficial for people with digestive issues, it is not just for them. In fact, many people use colon hydrotherapy to detoxify their body and improve their overall health. It can help to boost the immune system, improve skin health, and increase energy levels.

Myth 3: Colon Hydrotherapy is Dangerous!

Colon hydrotherapy is a safe and effective treatment when performed by a qualified therapist. The equipment used is TGA-approved Class 2A medical device for cleaning out the colon and the therapist follows strict hygiene protocols to ensure that the treatment is performed in a clean and sterile environment.

Myth 4: Colon Hydrotherapy is Addictive 😊

Contrary to popular belief, colon hydrotherapy is not addictive. While some people may choose to have regular treatments as part of their wellness routine, there is no physical or psychological dependence on the therapy. The angel of water system promotes peristalsis which can help strengthen the muscle, usually very helpful for those with a lazy bowel.

Myth 5: Colon Hydrotherapy is Expensive

While the cost of colon hydrotherapy may vary depending on the location and therapist, it is generally an affordable option for most people. I guess it comes down to how much will it cost you in you don’t have your health.

Myth 6: Colon Hydrotherapy is Only for Women

Do only women have bowel movements? This wins the internet for me! Fun fact we have more men on our monthly colonic club membership than women. Colon hydrotherapy is not a gender-specific treatment at all and can be beneficial for both men and women. It may help to improve prostate health in men and may help to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women.

Myth 7: Colon Hydrotherapy is a Substitute for a Healthy Diet and Exercise

While colon hydrotherapy can help to cleanse the colon and improve overall health, it should not be used as a substitute for a healthy diet and exercise. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle in order to see the best results.

Myth 8: Colon Hydrotherapy is a Quick Fix

Colon hydrotherapy is not a quick fix for health issues. While it can provide immediate relief from constipation and other digestive issues, it is important to maintain a regular schedule of treatments in order to see long-term benefits.

Myth 9: Colon Hydrotherapy is Embarrassing ☹

Many people feel embarrassed or uncomfortable about the idea of colon hydrotherapy, but there is no need to feel this way. All our new clients tell us after their first treatment that it was so easy, they can’t believe they were worrying about it! The open system provides privacy (don’t know about you but I don’t like an audience when I’m having a bowel movement! More control for clients who prefer to self-administer the treatment. You can release when you feel like you need to you don’t have to wait for the therapist to suction it back out. You can massage your body avoiding any gas pockets as well as pass wind and urinate as needed. You also have a hose to clean everything up after the treatment so that you feel much fresher than the mess that can be from leakage when you are disconnected from the closed system. The rectal tube is way smaller on the open system so if you also feel like it is exit point not an entry point you will much prefer the open system that we have at Wellness @ Wilston. It allows for individualized adjustments and can be more suitable for those who are more sensitive or uncomfortable with external assistance.
